Purpose of the job

The Attendance Lead Officer will work alongside key Academy staff to promote excellent attendance, reduce levels of absence and work with children and families to promote high levels of attendance. The attendance lead will work closely with external agencies, building relationships to ensure that our high expectations for attendance and punctuality are known amongst stakeholders. The Attendance Lead Officer, will ensure that all students whose attendance meets threshold for legal proceedings is proactive and purposeful to secure attendance in line with the academy target. The Attendance Lead Officer will take the strategic lead for EHA's within the academy to ensure that they are meeting all areas of contextual safeguarding, through regular reviews and professional meetings.

The attendance lead officer will take the overview of all attendance strategies within the academy and will oversee the City Mentors with their attendance priorities and interventions.

Gernal Duties:

  • To be responsible for ensuring all registers are completed and no missing marks or unexplained absences remain.
  • To follow Academy Policy of 'first day contact' within the Academy.
  • To work with identified individual and groups of students, using regular attendance/punctuality checks and contact with parents/carers and students to improve levels of attendance.
  • To collate information with regard to the attendance of students who may be experiencing attendance difficulties in order to inform Academy, Education Welfare and parents/carers.
  • To be responsible for checking and reminding any necessary staff to complete registers in line with legal requirements.
  • To ensure that all unexplained absences are accounted for or send letters requesting an explanation.
  • To ensure timely information i.e. exams, music trips, sporting events, work-based learning appointments, absence reports etc and to keep relevant staff updated.
  • To be responsible for checking accuracy and correct coding on registers before printing off official registers and filing away on a termly basis.
  • To ensure that the print off official registers daily and explained absences to ensure at hand in event of a fire.
  • To follow Attendance policy and send out letters as required.
  • To ensure an accurate system for students signing in/out of Academy.
  • To check records prior to the Census to ensure Academy attendance is accurate and up to date.
  • To produce and analyse information relating to attendance patterns.
  • To provide and produce updates for staff on student attendance.
  • To be responsible for monitoring the attendance of vulnerable groups of students and liaise with staff/SEND department.
  • To contact all absent students in liaison with student support leaders daily in line with the Academy's Attendance policy.
  • To assist with the identification of students who will receive support in improving their attendance record.
  • To work with parents/carers and other agencies in improving their child's attendance record and coordinating parental support and training where appropriate.
  • To work with a regular group of students using regular attendance checks and contact with parents/carers to improve levels of attendance as and when required.
  • To collate, maintain and update attendance data.
  • To produce termly reports for the Educational Welfare Manager and copy to the relevant SLT members.
  • To undertake home and Academy visits as designated by the Senior Leadership Team.
  • To work alongside relevant staff, contact teachers, SLT, progress assistants, academic and student support leaders to exchange information and determine appropriate levels of intervention.

  • To liaise with the designated colleagues for child protection and safeguarding.
  • To keep up to date with Bromcom training.
