Panoramic Care are proud to be exclusively partnered with the prestigious Mary Hare School in Berkshire, in recruiting a Director of Care. Mary Hare is an independent specialist School for children with profound and severe hearing difficulties. Both day school and boarding are offered to students from 5-19 across Primary and Secondary sites. The School is unique in that pupils with sever and profound hearing impairments are expected to talk and not use sign language in classrooms.

The purpose of this role is to further enhance the excellent work of the current team. You will be responsible for looking at the residential side and challenging, questions and analysing current practices to drive forward to the next step. The school is currently 'Good' in terms of Ofsted with plans to secure Outstanding features in the next inspection.

The is a brand new role within the School which will sit above three Heads of Care who manage the residential side across the sites. This is a 38 week provision so term time will be busy with extended holidays. Working hours will be subject to change as and when so you must be flexible. Up to 60% of hours worked will be shift work as the role is heavily based around the residential side.

Ofsted reports that 'Pupils are proud of their school and talk with excitement and passion about all aspects of their education here. Their enthusiasm for learning and appreciation of the opportunities the school provides are both heartening and humbling. They like that all pupi;s are 'the same' and talk of a strong sense of belonging. Some pupils told inspectors that this was the first school that they had attended that fully understood their needs. One told the lead inspector that the school had changed his life, giving him the confidence to talk after 11 years of silence'.

Required experience:

  • To be suitable for this role you must have solid understanding of residential care. This is essential as there are around 180 boarding students
  • Ideally you will have worked in a residential special school
  • No knowledge of sign language is required as deaf awareness training will be provided and students use the oral approach
  • Ideally you will currently be Head of Care/ Director of Care or equivalent in a residential setting

Benefits include:

  • Opportunity to work with highly motivated students at a Centre for Excellence for deaf children
  • Health insurance
  • Extended holidays (38 week provision)
  • Excellent relocation package
  • Accommodation may be offered
